You’re locked in a room with your greatest fear. Describe what’s in the room. – Daily Prompt : 1984
There is a skeleton at the end of the block.
It plays make-believe as a beautiful house.
Sight deceives,
Dark secrets spill over the concrete steps.
Open the door.
Step inside.
See the face of the one you trust most,
The one who you love.
And there are children.
Your children.
Tears fall,
As you realize you have what you’ve always desired.
It’s a dream.
Family.
“I have family.
I am loved.”
So you ignore the whisper.
Despite yourself,
You begin to hope.
I did it. I’m free. I won’t repeat it. I won’t be her.
Then darkness descends,
The dream turns.
You hear those most hated words…
You remember.
You never forget.
It’s a nightmare.
This has to be a nightmare…
His face turns gruesome,
His eyes turn cold.
Those once kind, beloved hands,
They move too quick.
They rush out…
To grab,
To hit,
To hurt…
This isn’t right.
Not him.
Not him.
No!
No.
You are pleading.
Saying her lines,
Living her life.
Living some horrible fate.
You’ve failed.
You turn.
Try to exit.
But there is no door anymore.
No way out.
Oh, no, please!
You wake up.
But it isn’t enough,
So you wait,
Scared to love.
